4. The Lost Principles of Design

In the instant design age many of us often stray away from the basics in design. If you had a professor in college who taught you the fundamentals of design these may be engrained into your skull. For the self-taught, you may have a book on your desk with these very principles that you refer to on a daily basis. However, the more and more people that flood the internet for design content need to learn the basics before trying to make a stellar gradient in Photoshop. While this is cool and amazing right now, there will come a point where this style is left behind and a new style is made. In history, this lesson has repeated itself with movements like the Bauhaus and Swiss Modernism and will soon label our current trends as part of history.

The History of Television Through the Pages of Popular Science Magazine

The Jetsons promised us flying cars and sentient robots by 2062. 2001: A Space Odyssey promised galactic travel – beyond today’s dinky power wheels stuck in mud up in Mars – that’s now already a decade overdue. And while I’ve jumped into damn near 300 hot tubs since I first saw the trailer for Hot Tub Time Machine, Duran Duran is still socially unacceptable listening. Technology has totally failed us.

I’ve tried to ignore video as long as possible! I’m not a fan of cameras – they’re too revealing, intimate, and personal. They capture everything. They convey more emotion and carry more impact, and they reveal more flaws. Actually, these are a few of the reasons you can’t afford to ignore video.

9. Google Stealing Content and Hijacking Traffic? A deeper look.

Recently, a blog post by Michael Gray called “Is Google Stealing Your Content and Hijacking Your Traffic” caught my attention. If you haven’t read it yet, here’s the low down: The blog suggests that Google is “stealing” traffic (and thus revenue) from other companies by providing more information to its searchers upfront, instead of requiring searchers to click through and see the content themselves, among other claims.
